Coggins (Equine Infectious Anemia) Testing

A negative Coggins (EIA) test is required for many shows and is required for interstate movement of horses. Sandhills Equine recommends surveillance testing annually, at the time of vaccination. This ensures that any last-minute interstate movement of horses does not need to wait on the test lag time (up to one week). Additionally, it ensures surveillance and monitoring of the prevalence of this deadly disease.

Sandhills Equine offers blood collection, paperwork, and lab submission to a state-approved laboratory for testing. Please specify when scheduling if this service will be required.

Health Papers

Health papers are required for interstate movement of animals and for admission to some shows and rodeos (such as Nebraska State Fair). Please specify when scheduling if this service will be required. Also, please have proof of negative coggins present at the time of appointment, OR let us know if you would like to have us submit this, as well.

At-home Euthanasia

In light of the recent wildfires affecting our local communities, we at Sandhills Equine have decided to offer pharmaceutical euthanasia as part of our service offerings. It was very difficult to be unable to offer that for the horses suffering severe injuries during the prairie fires. It is a great gift to be able to offer a painless option to relieve the suffering of these loyal animals. We promise to treat your equine companion with the utmost care, respect, and dignity during this difficult transition.

As of March 2024, this service will be offered only on a mobile on-farm basis. We are happy to discuss any concerns or options regarding remains. Please call or text us to discuss and/or schedule this service.
